New Brain Modulation Treatment for Dyslexia!

Dyslexia is a very common problem and affects 5-10% of the population. It is a neuro-psychological condition that is defined as “an individual with normal education, motivation and intelligence having challenges with learning to read” (3).

This week celebrates Dyslexia Empowerment Week 2016 and it’s great to be able to share some of the latest research about new treatments for dyslexia. At The Perth Brain Centre we use tDCS (Trans-Cranial Direct Current Stimulation) for problems like depression, chronic pain and migraines. These conditions, and many others, are recognised to be brain-based disorders, caused (at least in part) by key regions of the brain not working normally. Dyslexia is no different – Research clearly shows that some key areas of the brain do not work as well as they should and this can result in difficulties with reading.

Research has also shown that tDCS can help improve dyslexia and can be an effective treatment option for children (1), adolescents (1) and adults (2).
